First steps
in system

Please read the following list of steps to speed up the deployment and use of perc.pass. From creating an account to creating your first entry.

Account registration

On the account registration screen, fill in all the necessary data tailored to the selected account type. Next, read and accept the terms and conditions and the privacy policy. Finally, click the “Sign up” button to complete the process.

faq1

Account activation / Joining a team

After completing the registration, you will receive an email from perc.pass requesting confirmation and account activation. The account activation link is valid for 24 hours. During this time, clicking the “Confirm email address” or “Accept invitation” button will redirect you to the perc.pass account activation page.

1. In the first step, enter your account access password.

faq2

2. In the second step, enter your master password. You can also set a password hint and the number of PBKDF2 iterations. Once you have filled in the necessary data, click the “Activate” button.

The master password is the most important password in the entire system and is used to secure the database containing all your passwords.

faq3

3. After completing the steps above, you can log in to your account using the set credentials and start using perc.pass!

Logging in to the web application, extension, and mobile application works in an analogous way. You must provide your email and account access passwords. The login process differs only in the case of two-factor authentication.

faq4

In the case of logging in on a new device, you will receive an email about an unrecognized login. If this is not your activity, immediately change your account password and inform your organization’s administrator or perc.pass technical support – [email protected]

From within the web application, you have access to all basic functionalities of perc.pass, as well as the ability to manage the organization, configure two-factor authentication, and share entries.

Your vault

After logging in, the “Your vault” tab will open. To unlock the vault, you must enter your master password.

First entry

Unlocking the vault will grant you access to your entries. Upon the first launch, the vault is empty.

1. To create a new group, press the “Add new group” button.

2. In the form, enter the name of the new group, and then press the “Add group” button. Your first group has been created.

faq6

3. You can access the group by clicking directly on the group tile. In the group view, press the “Add entry” or “Add” button.

5. Complete the form by entering the entry title, login, password, and website, and then press the “Add Entry” button. Your first entry has been added.

The perc.pass password manager secures your data using cryptographic keys. The keys used by the encryption algorithm serve to transform data from plaintext to ciphertext and from ciphertext to plaintext. The master password is the most important part of the system used to create the master key.

Why is the master password important?

The master password is one of the components used to build your master key. This is why it is so crucial to remember it. The success of all cryptographic operations performed on your account depends on the master password you enter.

Why a master password and not an account password?

All your keys are secured using the master key, which is the most critical element of the cryptographic system. The master key never leaves the device of the person using the system in order to ensure encryption in a “zero-knowledge” model.

Using the account password or storing the master password creates a risk of replicating the master key, which makes it impossible to ensure encryption in a “zero-knowledge” model. Consequently, this would lead to a reduction in the security level of your passwords.

Why can’t I recover the master password?

Encryption in the “zero-knowledge” model does not allow for the storage of your master password, leading to a situation where only you know this password and there is no way to recover it. The moment you lose your master password (or simply forget it), all data stored in encrypted form cannot be decrypted, as it will be impossible to build the master key.

Why doesn’t unauthorized access threaten my data?

The use of a master password brings another advantage. In the event of unauthorized physical access to your data, it is 100% useless to an attacker, because the master password is known only to you.

The master password never leaves your device and never reaches the perc.pass servers. This means that neither Perceptus employees nor the data center where the data is stored have access to the plaintext passwords of any user.

The perc.pass password manager offers an extension with an autofill feature that significantly facilitates password management. Thanks to this feature, users can automatically fill in login fields on websites, which saves time and increases convenience.
